Holy Hits: RoH Final Battle & WWE TLC 2012 Reviewed

Last Sunday was a great day to be a hardware salesman. Between Ring of Honor’s Final Battle iPPV and WWE’s TLC PPV an ungodly amount of wood and steel was demolished in the name of entertainment. With the likes of John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Steen and El Generico all ready for weaponised combat, it was certainly an exciting few hours in prospect. Chris Pilkington settled in for a day and night of some of the most wince-inducing action we’ve seen in quite some time. It’s been a funny old year for both WWE and RoH. There have been times…

Interview: Nigel McGuinness on Daniel Bryan’s success, retiring – and ROH’s future.

NigelMcGuinness_display_image

NIGEL MCGUINNESS is one of the best British wrestlers to make his way over to the United States in recent years. He made his name with Ring of Honor having lengthy spells as both the Pure and World champion and magnificent matches against the likes of Daniel Bryan. The grappler from Stelplehurst, Kent then joined TNA in 2009 and began a feud with Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle straight away, which led to a series of great matches between the pair – however McGuinness’ time in TNA was cut short. Now back in ROH as a commentator, Joshua Modaberi caught…

The Last of McGuinness: DVD Review

Nigel McGuiness

The Last of McGuinness, the highly anticipated documentary by Nigel McGuinness, is finally here. As pledgers to the Kickstarter campaign that made the production possible, Collar & Elbow were granted early internet access to the finished product that has been months (some would say years) in the making. With his initial viewing still fresh in the mind and heart, Chris Pilkington shares his thoughts on a very emotional and personal piece of filmmaking. There’s a lot to be said for dreams. At one point in everybody’s life there comes a point where we want more than we have, where we…

ROH-Border-Wars-2012-218x300

This was supposed to be a full review of Ring of Honor’s latest iPPV Border Wars, an event that, on paper, we were anticipating with much excitement. If only it had actually taken place on paper and not online… Chris Pilkington gives his thoughts on a troubled yet enjoyable show. By now many of you have heard about the technical difficulties RoH had with the show. A quick scout around my twitter feed over the last few days led me to believe that they are the only things people are talking about. Whilst expected, given the monumental levels of the…

Kickstarting A Fond Farewell

Desmond-Wolfe-tna-superstar-3

Nigel McGuiness isn’t the first professional wrestler to tell his story; far from it. Over the past decade, we’ve seen a bevy of ‘superstars’ put pen to paper – or voice to ghostwriter – to chart their rise to wrestling’s zenith through bestselling autobiographies. Brit grappler McGuiness is now going to tell his story, but in a very different way. The former Ring of Honor Champion has turned to wrestling fans around the world to fund a new documentary, which charts his farewell tour following his shock retirement last year. McGuiness has appealed to fans via Kickstarter, the world’s largest…

ROH Young Wolves Rising: The Future’s Bright, The Future’s Ugly

Source: strangewood.tumblr.com

On Sunday March 4th, Ring of Honor celebrated ten years of professional wrestling excellence with its Young Wolves Rising iPPV live from The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Heroes of the past would return, new stars would continue to rise and four young and hungry men would try and solidify their position as the cornerstones of the modern day RoH. Did the new decade of Honor start with a bang, or did the expectation weigh too heavily on the new generation? Chris Pilkington has the answer… Ring of Honor has established some of the biggest stars, or indeed Superstars,…
