Interview: Marty Scurll on TNA, Hulk Hogan and British wrestling’s future

Marty Scurll

Marty Scurll is one of the brightest British wrestling talents today, already achieving so much in the ring despite only being 24 years old. The grappler from Ely, Cambridgeshire helped put British wrestling back on the map after his appearance on hit ITV gameshow Take Me Out, and earlier this year Scurll was one of four Brits to compete for a TNA contract in British Boot Camp,  making appearances on Impact by wrestling at both the Impact Zone and at London’s Wembley Arena. Joshua Modaberi caught up with ‘Party’ Marty to talk about the current state of British wrestling, his experiences on…

4FW’s ‘Battle Britannia’ event offers up the action in Chipping Sodbury

Omega vs Sabre Jr

After watching their entertaining show last month, Richard Hattersley reports from Chipping Sodbury, South Gloucestershire for 4FW’s Battle Britannia show  - and saw the promotion take things to another level.  When Fujita ‘jr’ Hayato left the ring on Friday 8 March 2013, surely the irony of his theme music wasn’t lost on anyone, let alone his opponent Pete Dunne. The chorus from T.O.K’s harmonious reggae song, ‘I Believe’ which accompanied the 26 year old Japanese star claims that, ‘love is the answer’. Yet, you can’t help but feel that Hayato is not one to agree with this philosophy, especially when…

Interview: British wrestling legends Ricky Knight and Sweet Saraya speak about NXT, Paige and an exciting 2013

Knight Family

There have been many great wrestling families over the years. The Von Erichs and the Harts are two that spring to mind – but another grappling family lives far closer to home – the Knight family from Norwich.  The family consists of dad Ricky Knight, mum Julia Hamer-Bevis (known as Sweet Saraya), sons Zak Bevis and Roy ‘Zebra Kid’ Bevis, and daughter Britani Knight. The Knights recently starred in Channel 4 documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family, which followed the Knight children as they had tryouts with the WWE, with Britani ending up getting a contract and since becoming a huge success…

Holy Grail: Lambert lifts lid on British wrestling ‘revival’

greg-lambert-holy-grail

A MAN FAMOUS for his way with words, Greg Lambert certainly does not shy away from revealing the influence that he feels that the Frontier Wrestling Alliance had on the wrestling scene in Great Britain in his new book. “By inspiring so many, the FWA actually accelerated its own decline … [the] rapid increase in new British wrestling companies is a significant part of the FWA’s legacy. The FWA singlehandedly made British wrestling cool and inspired so many people to want to be a part of it.” But if anyone is qualified to speak about the FWA’s national impact, it would be Lambert. Known…

These two men – then positioned as mid-carders by the World Wrestling Federation – were given the previously-unheard-of chance to headline this huge international event, and to showcase their talents to a worldwide audience. What followed was more than 35 minutes of some of the greatest wrestling ever seen; a true masterpiece that demonstrated just how much of an art-form…

1PW All or Nothing: The Story of Europe’s Most Controversial Wrestling Company

1pw_L

As All Or Nothing landed on the doormat with an almighty thud, one thought immediately sprung to mind: “I’m gonna need a bigger bookmark.” Our glutton for endurance-based word punishment Chris Pilkington reviews the book that lifts the lid on the most talked about wrestling promotion the UK has ever seen. The story of the rise and fall of 1PW is beyond captivating. Indeed, All Or Nothing was originally envisaged as an overview of the entire British wrestling scene (with 1PW to be covered in one chapter), but the shear enormity of the story evolved into over 300,000 words of…
